PRESENTATION

INNOVATION BY INTUITION –
An Action Research Project about the Trilogos Method as a source of inspiration in R&D processes

PRESENTER

Prof. Michael Noah Weiss / USN

ABSTRACT

Research and development work (R&D) is an essential part of academia and of professional practices. However, innovative ideas are sometimes hard to get hold of – most of the time, they don’t simply come to mind.

In this presentation an action research project is presented in which scholars from the University of South-Eastern Norway and the University of Paris Nanterre did a series of 7 guided imageries based on the Trilogos Method. This method by the Swiss pedagogue Linda Vera Roethlisberger is rooted in the so-called Human Potential Movement and it integrates both rationality, emotionality and spirituality (that is why it is called Tri-logos). The method can harmonize work-life balance and fosters personal growth among the participants, as evidenced by psychological studies conducted at the University of Vienna.

However, in the project presented here the focus of the participating scholars was not only on their personal development. Rather, in online sessions in which they shared and reflected together on their experiences from the exercises, they also investigated what they could learn from their imagery experiences with regards to their academic R&D work. As it turned out, innovation through intuition – that is, innovative ideas that came intuitively to mind through the guided imageries of the Trilogos Method – became a vital practice in their academic profession.

RELEVANCE FOR THE CONFERENCE THEME
This presentation gives account of how meditative and spiritual practices can be carried out in online sessions – something which addresses the technological aspect of the conference theme. Furthermore, the Trilogos Method is a method for personal growth and consciousness development – hence there is a link to consciousness as another aspect of the conference theme. Since studies at the University of Vienna show that this method also can harmonize work-life balance and foster personal growth, also the aspect of wellbeing is addressed, which is a central part of the conference theme.

Second TRILOGOS WORKSHOP

THE TRILOGOS METHOD IN PRACTICE
– A Workshop on Personality Training and Consciousness Development

FACILITATOR

Prof. Michael Noah Weiss

ABSTRACT

Standing in the tradition of the Human Potential Movement, the Trilogos Method was developed by the pedagogue Linda Vera Roethlisberger and addresses a person’s rational, emotional and spiritual abilities. The overall purpose of this approach is personal growth and consciousness development. In addition to fostering personal growth, the method can also harmonize work-life balance as evidenced by psychological studies conducted at the University of Vienna. By means of a guided imagery based, participants of this workshop can experience this methodology and develop new ideas and steps of action for innovations in their everyday life.

With regards to the principles of participants care it can be stated that participants will be informed in advance that participating in this guided imagery exercise is absolutely voluntary and that one can decide if one wants to try out this methodology or just observe the process. Furthermore, those who want to try it out will be informed prior to and during the imagery exercise, that they can either choose to just relax during the whole exercise or to actively work with their imagination (also, quitting with the exercise is possible at any point). After the imagery exercise, participants will have the chance to share their experiences – this however is absolutely voluntary, and nobody should feel forced to do that. In this experience-sharing dialogue, all participants are invited to come up with ideas and associations to the experiences shared by others. This however, again, is also voluntary. In summary, throughout the whole workshop, those attending can decide how much they want to get involved in the imagery process and the subsequent dialogue, or not. And of course, everything that is said and shared during this workshop remains in the group.

RELEVANCE FOR THE CONFERENCE THEME
Since the Trilogos Method is a method for personal growth and consciousness development, there is a first clear link to the conference theme. Furthermore, an extensive self-guided Trilogos course consisting of 64 guided imageries is available as an online, digital tool, and most of the activities around the Trilogos method today happen online – a feature that addresses the technological aspect of the conference theme.
